dc.description.abstractIntroduction: A healthcare worker is one who delivers care and services to the sick and ailing either directly or indirectly. Emotional intelligence includes the recognition and control of emotions and emotions that plays an important role in the job performance of individuals. The purpose of this study was to investigate the emotional intelligence and performance of rural health worker in Urmia. Methods: This is a descriptive-analytic study that was performed on 323 rural health worker in Urmia. The instrument used for collecting data was a questionnaire of emotional intelligence load and functional checklist of rural health worker. Descriptive and analytical statistics including Pearson correlation test and multivariate regression were used for data analysis. Results: The mean of emotional intelligence of rural health worker was (66.53%±9.676), that is within the range of good emotional intelligence. The average of performance of rural health worker was (86.26 ± 5.656) that is in good category. Emotional intelligence and its components with job performance of rural health worker had a positive and significant relationship (P = 0.001). Among the components of emotional intelligence, the stress management component had the highest correlation and interpersonal emotional intelligence component had the least correlation with job performance of rural health worker. Conclusion: Therefore, the results of this study showed that emotional intelligence is effective on the performance of rural health worker. Due to the importance of providing health services by rural health worker in rural areas, improving the performance of rural health worker is of great importance. So, in order to improve the performance of rural health worker, strategies should be used to enhance their emotional intelligence.en_US
