Comparison of Nurses and Nurse Manager's Perception of Control over Nursing Practice at Teaching Hospitals of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, 2011

Abstract

Abstract: Introduction: Control over nursing practice is a participatory process regarding nursing policies and guidelines and patient care. Nurses go through with decisions about the nursing framework of practice. Accordingly, this study compared the perceptions of nurses and nurse managers control over nursing practice. Methods: In this descriptive study, 636 nurses and 86 nurse managers employed through convenience sampling and census from teaching hospitals of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, 2011. IPNG questionnaire for data collection was used. Data analyzed using SPSS software version 17 through statistical test (t test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficient) at the significant level of p<0.05. Results: Results showed the highest score of the control over nursing practice in Professional control (28.69±10.07) and liaison (28.39±8.76) for the nurses and nurse managers respectively and the lowest scores in the both groups were in the Alignment. CONP scores differed significantly regarding to the demographic and occupational variables like marital status, ward, and educational level. Employment and direct patient care. Conclusion: In general, the results call for some revisions in managerial process of the hospitals towards more participative multidisciplinary management.
