Abstract: Introduction: Nowadays, a high percentage of pregnant women experience preterm labor. This case causes a lot of problems for mother and premature infant. It is one of the major reasons of mortality of neonates. It is the second reason of neonatal death, after deficiency and cost a lot for uterine contractions. It is not clear, which drug is more useful. Methods: This study is a randomized control trial. Pregnant women with the include criteria were randomly allocated in two groups by four and six blocking. One group is given sulfate magnesium with a placebo and the other one is given Nifedipine tablet with placebo. This study conducted in Taleghani and Al –Zahra educational and curative center of Tabriz in 1390. Data collection consisted of check list and Partograph. Result: There was a statistically significant difference (p<0.001) in suppressing of uterine contractions between two groups. Uterine contractions suppressed in 85.5% of the group which received Nifedipine and 47.5% of the group receiving sulfate magnesium. In group which was given sulfate magnesium, the result revealed that fetal movement decreased for 27.5% of case, fetal base line decreased in 57.5% and beat to beat variability decreased in 37.5%. But, there was no significant difference in the other group. Also, there were no significant difference in Apgar 1, Apgar 2, admitted in NICU, SAO2, PH, PCO2, HCO2, BE. In group which was given sulfate magnesium, the results revealed 65% of dyspnea especially after receiving the first dose, uterine atone happened in 67.5% of Nifedipine group. Conclusion: This research revealed that Nifedipine suppress uterine contraction with less side effects in comparison with sulfate magnesium. Sulfate magnesium cases to decrease the fetal movement and made the synovial pattern of fetal heart rate. These weren't any differences in Nifedipine group; therefore, it is better to substitute Nifedipine with sulfate magnesium to improve curing of preterm labor.en_US
