Barriers for Pain Management among Cancer Patients from the Viewpoint of Cancer Patients, their Family Members and Nurses in Tabriz and Ardebil Health

Abstract

Abstract: Introduction: There are many barriers for controlling the pain of cancer patients worldwide. But, there are narrow literature investigating these barriers from the viewpoint of all involved persons. So, the aims of present study were to examine the barriers for pain management among cancer patients from the viewpoint of cancer patients, their family members and health care providers. Methods: in this descriptive-comparative study 102 cancer patients, 80 primary caregivers and 35 nurses were participated. The Barriers Questionnaire (‼) was used for data collection. SPSS statistical software (ver 13) was used for data analysis. Results: Findings showed that the mean score of Barriers Questionnaire for patients, their primary caregivers and nurses was 87, 86, 96 (from 162) respectively that shows many barriers in controlling cancer pain. Also, analysis showed primary caregivers and nurses reported significantly more barriers for controlling cancer pain in comparison with patients. Conclusion: There are many barriers for controlling the pain of cancer patients especially from family caregivers and nurse. So, there is a need for establishing effective interventions for reducing these barriers.
