dc.description.abstractBackground: Adverse usage of electronic devices; Television (TV), computers, and Electronic Media Contact(EMC) impose a lot of health problems. The aim of this study was to identify the parental styles in terms of controlling children and adolescents sedentary behaviors among households covered by Tabriz health centers. Method &Tools: In this cross-sectional study, 480 parents and children enrolled through multi-stage random sampling. Data were collected using a multi-sectional questionnaire; parent and child demographic, parental styles related to sedentary behaviors based on Bjelland et al. study, sedentary behavior pattern adapted from the Global School-based Student Health Survey (GSHS).The self-administered questionnaires were filled out by parents and children (for illiterate parents and children under 10 questionnaires were filled out by an interview). Data analysis was performed using descriptive and analytic statistic methods, SPSS 21 software. The significant level =p <0.05. Results: In all 480 parents and children; 55.62% boy, Mean (Standard Deviation) age10.56 (3.89), M(SD) sedentary behaviors excluding night asleep 615 (331.06) minutes or 10.25 hours on weekday. Almost100% (98.8%) of children and adolescents revealed more than 2 hours recommended sedentary behavior. There was a meaningful correlation between sex ]OR for boy=2.13, 95%CI=1.3-37.31], age [OR for 5 and above=4.09, 95%CI=1.14-15.56], socio-economic status ]OR for middle and high level family =0.53, 95%CI=0.1-21.33], parent (mother) knowledge [OR for lack of parent (mother) knowledge=2.93, 95%CI=1.6-36.31] associated with computer and video game playing and EMC, age [OR for over 12=1.41, 95%CI=0.3-55.61], relationship[OR for Logical relationship=2.49, 95%CI=1.4-35.57] associated with more than 2 hours tv viewing on weekday. Conclusion: The prevalence of computer games and smartphones in children Under and above age 5 exceeds the recommended time, makes it necessary planning educational interventions to inform parents and care givers of children under the age of 5 and adolescents belonging to families with middle and high level of socio-economic status about the adverse effects of electronic communication devices.en_US
