dc.description.abstractIntroduction: The Fluoroquinolones are broad spectrum antibiotics that are used in treatment of infections caused by gram negative, gram positive and some anaerobic microorganisms. Among Fluoroquinolones Ciprofloxacin and Levofloxacin are highly consumed and both of them are recommended in guide lines of MDR infections treatment. Gemifloxacin is one of the new generation Fluoroquinolones. Considering the importance of the sensitivity of microorganisms in hospital against antibiotics and the appropriate antibiotic selection in the protocols for experimental treatment of nosocomial infections we decided to persue the suseptibility of Enterobacteriaceae family, pseudomonas aeruginosa, acinto bacter baumannii isolates collected from urine, CSF, trachea, wound culture and blood in Imam Reza hospital. Goal: The aim of this study was investigating the antibacterial activity of three antibiotics Gemifloxacin, Levofloxacin and Ciprofloxacin against gram-negative bacterial isolates collected in Imam Reza Hospital in Tabriz during 2016-2017. Methods and patients: A total of 200 isolates from patient´s clinical specimen that were admitted in different wards of Emam Reza hospital in Tabriz during 2016-2017 collected. Antibiotics susceptibility patterns was determined by micro broth dilution (for Ciprofloxacin and Levofloxacin) and Epsilometer test (for Gemifloxacin). Results: Over all 60.5% of isolates that were collected from hospital specimen were resistant to Ciprofloxacin and the percentage of isolates resistance to Gemifloxacin and Levofloxacin were 87 and 57 respectively.48.5% of these isolates were resistant to both Ciprofloxacin and Levofloxacin and48.5% to all three antibiotics. Conclusion: High degree of resistance to fluoroquinolones was observed in Entrobacteriacea, Pseudomonas and Acinetobacter isolates. Resistance to Ciprofloxacin and Levofloxacin was close to each other and most resistance was observed to Gemifloxacin. It seems both Ciprofloxacin and Levofloxacin can be equally effective in the treatment of hospital-acquired gram-negative infections.en_US
