dc.description.abstractAbstract: Introduction: With advances in technology in all aspects of human life and changes in people’s behavioral patterns, people are prone to develop numerous chronic and non-communicable diseases including cardiovascular diseases. Raising awareness about cardiovascular diseases and its risk factors can be used to modify the lifestyle, promote preventive behaviors and quality of life, and bringing about a dramatic decline in the incidence of cardiovascular diseases. Considering the high prevalence of cardiovascular diseases in Iran and the fundamental role of lifestyle modification, this article aimed to study the relationship of awareness, attitude, and self-management behaviors concerning cardiovascular diseases risk factors in patients diagnosed with Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). Method: This is a descriptive, correlational study. The sample size consisted of 312 patients with CAD visiting cardiology clinic of Shahid Madani training hospital in Tabriz, in 2015, by convenience sampling. Data were collected using two questionnaires: Awareness and Attitude Questionnaire of Isfahan Healthy Heart National Plan and Patient Activation Measure (PAM) Self-Management Tool. The validity and reliability were verified. The data were analyzed using SPSS16 with descriptive statisticsand inferential test. Results: The mean score of awareness was relatively optimal in most patients and their attitude was mostly positive. Majority of participants (54.7%) had an optimal self-management status. Concerning the awareness and self-management, the study showed that general information, sport and physical activity, and nutrition had a positive, significant relationship with self-management activities. Also, total awareness score had a positive, significant relationship with self-management activities. None of dimensions of attitude had a significant relationship with self-management activities. Conclusion: According to the results, more and more inclusive training is required to enhance the awareness and self-management. It is also essential to strengthen the self-management skills.en_US
