Safe Sex Behaviors and its Relationship with Safe Sex Self- Efficacy and Disclosure of HIV Status among HIV‐Positive Individuals referring to Behavioral Diseases Consultation Centers of Ahvaz, 2013

Introduction Safe sexual behavior among HIV / AIDS a significant role in reducing the incidence of HIV in healthy people as well as reducing the incidence of diseases transmitted by sex or different strains of HIV in HIV/AIDS. Self-efficacy is an important structural in the development and evaluation of behavioral interventions, especially in decision-making and self-expression of people exposed to HIV infection and discuss about Safe sex practices Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the Safe Sexual Behavior and its relationship with safe sex self- efficacy and disclosure of HIV status among HIV‐positive individuals referring to behavioral diseases consultation centers of Ahvaz, 2013.

Materials and Methods This cross - sectional study is conducted on totally 120 people, 89 male and 31 female who are HIV positive in the time period of October of 2013 to March of 2014. Population sample is all HIV positive patients registered in two behavioral disorders consultation centers of west and east of Ahvaz city. Data collection tools were including socio-demographic questionnaire, and Safe Sexual Behavior Questionnaire (SSBQ). To determine the relationship between demographic characteristics and total score of the first safe sexual behavior bivariate tests including t-test, and ANOVA was used. Then to control the confounding factors, all variables which had p < 0.05 were entered the general linear model

Result: Mean (SD) of total score of safe sexual behavior among men and women respectively was 66.5 (13.1) and 62.2 (13.0). Score limit: (0-100(. Conclusion: There was a relationship between Safe Sexual Behavior with safe sex self- efficacy and disclosure of HIV status the average score of safe sexual behavior among men and women respectively was moderate to high and There was a significant positive correlation between safe sexual behaviors and other variables such as job, sexual partners, unprotected sexual practice (vaginal), and currently being a drug user. Also the average score of safe sex self- efficacy among men and women was desirable and there was a significant positive correlation between safe sex self- efficacy and other variables such as number of sex partner and currently being a drug user. The average score of disclosure of HIV status among men and women was moderate and there was a significant positive correlation between disclosures.
