Introduction: An age friendly city has characteristics that provide conditions for active participation of the senior citizens in the community, and improve the quality of their lives by offering appropriate security, social and health conditions. This research was conducted to evaluate the viewpoints of senior citizens participating in the active age friendly centers of Tabriz; the components of social respect, participation and social relations and cultural health services of the age friendly cities have been explored in this regard.
Materials and Methods: The present study being a cross-sectional one is conducted through descriptive-analytic methods. The population of the study consisted of the senior citizens of 6 districts of Tabriz city. Using Morgan table, the sample size included 351 individuals; in addition, the data collection tool was the standard scale of WHO age friendly city. To analyze the data, descriptive (frequency, frequency, mean, standard deviation) and inferential (ANOVA) statistics were used by means of SPSS-22 software- at a significant level of 0.05.
Findings: The highest level of satisfaction concerning "social respect" component -with a score of 71.2% -was expressed by question 9, titled " There are special places to provide public education about aging " and the highest level of dissatisfaction in this regard related to Question 11- with a score of 3.7%- , titled "Special Seating is available for the senior citizens in public transportation vehicles". The highest level of satisfaction concerning the component of " participation and social relations" was 51.6%- titled "are there any training courses directed to the interests of senior citizens such as the Internet, computer, chess and the Quran, etc."; the highest level of dissatisfaction concerning question 6 was 83.4%, titled " Are some facilities as large buttons or capital letters used in electronic equipment, such as ATMs and public telephones, etc.". The highest level of satisfaction regarding "cultural-recreational" component was related to question 15, "Attracting participation and utilizing the experiences of the senior citizens in the running of urban areas and holding programs such as health homes and the elderly care communities", with a score of 43.5 percent, and the highest level of dissatisfaction in this regard related to question 5, titled "The books, magazines and CDs are delivered to the doorstep of the senior citizens," with the score of 95.2%. The highest level of satisfaction concerning the component of "health services" related to question 11, titled "Health counselors and staff are trained focusing on the health of the senior citizens " with a score of 70.9%; the highest level of dissatisfaction related to question 4, titled " Health services such as physiotherapy, canes, eyeglasses and hearing aids are appropriately distributed among the senior citizens "with a score of 1.88%.
Conclusion: The results of this study showed that none of the components of age friendly cities- social respect, participation and social relations, cultural- sporting services and health therapeutic services- in Tabriz city are well-suited being far from the original standards. These results indicate that none of the indicators of the four components are in an ideal condition, and none of the above mean values are observed in the indicators.Therefore, in order to gain desired conditions it isnecessary to pay special attention to them. | en_US |
