Considering that both preeclampsia and diabetes mellitus can cause intrauterine hypoxia, it is likely that these risk factors will be associated with the incidence of ROP. In this study, we examined the role of maternal risk factors such as diabetes mellitus, preeclampsia and maternal age on the incidence of ROP. Method: A total of 150 newborns admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit and the Neonatal Department of Alzahra Hospital in Tabriz in the year 94, whose gestational age was less than 32 weeks or whose birth weight was less than 1500 grams. Neonatal ophthalmology was performed by an ophthalmologist. Neonates were divided into two groups of ROP and non-ROP, and in these two groups, maternal risk factors were compared. Results: In our study, only the variable that had a strong and significant relationship with the incidence of ROP was the gestational age (P = 0.001). Other variables such as maternal age (P=0/209), birth weight(p=0/646), mother's disease like: hypertension(p=0/465), preeclampsia(p=0/952), Taking corticosteroids by the mother (P=0/192), cardiovascular diseases, thyroid diseases (P=0/329), renal disease, anemia, and lupus had no significant correlation with the incidence of ROP in the infanten_US
