Abstract: Background and Purpose: Mucositis is a common complication of chemotherapy. Children with mucositis should be properly managed to prevent complications. One of the symptoms is severe pain. Mucositis management begins by evaluating oral hygiene and dietary changes and pain management. In traditional medicine, there are many uses for Satureja hortensis. Therefore, the present study was conducted to determine the effect of mucosal mucositis and mucositis pain in children under chemotherapy. Materials and Method: A double blind clinical trial was conducted in Tabriz Children's Hospital in 1959 on 60 children who were mucositides for chemotherapy. The samples were randomly divided into intervention and control groups. The intervention group used 1% Satureja hortensis Gel extract and placebo gel control group twice daily for five days after starting mucositis with routine treatment. Oral mucosa was checked daily. The World Health Organization's oral hygiene tool, Other pain tool, and demographic questionnaire. Chi-square, t-test and ANOVA were used for repeated data. Results: The results of this study showed that the intensity of mucositis in the intervention group was 1.8 ± 0.66 on the first day and 0.07 ± 0.25 in the fifth day and in the control group, 1.77 ±0.68 on the first day reached 0.83 ± 0.91 on the fifth day that the two groups had a significant difference in the severity of mucositis during the time. (p <0.001) The results of the study showed that pain intensity due to mucositis was statistically different between the two groups in terms of intensity of pain and pain intensity from 3.5 ± 1.2 to 0. 0 ± 0 in the intervention group and in the control group on the first day reached 1/3 ± 1/8 to 0/4 ± 1/0 on the fifth day. (p <0.001) Conclusion: The present study showed that Satureja hortensis extract is effective in improving the severity of mucositis and pain caused by mucositis, and as a new therapeutic method, it can be used to reduce the severity of mucositis and mucositis pain.en_US
