dc.description.abstract | Abstract: Introduction: Immigration among Iranian nurses has intensified in recent years. And this despite the fact that the health care system suffers from a shortage of nurses. Gifted and talented Manpower resource as a very valuable asset that cost is so much to educate them, immigrate exactly when the country needs their service. So this study pays on the root causes of nurses’ immigration and examines nurse decision-making process for immigration until to prevent this phenomenon with sufficient knowledge of the subject.
Method: This study was conducted through a qualitative approach and the Strauss and Corbin grounded theory (2008) method between 2014 to 2017. The participants in this study were all experienced nurses in Iran who were planning to immigrate. Selection of participants was initiated using purposeful and snowball sampling and continued by theoretical sampling until theoretical saturation was achieved. The main data collecting tools were unstructured interviews and field notes. A total of 27 interviews were performed with 21 participants. Data were analyzed based on Corbin and Strauss (2008) method and which were organized by MAXQDA-10 software.
Results: Organizational culture of power-driven, burnout, lack of internal enrichment, poor socio-cultural image of the nursing profession in Iran and Inappropriate reality of society were five main concepts of contextual factors that influences on decision-making process for immigration in Iranian nurses. "Interpersonal conflicts and job dissatisfaction" was the main concern of participants. The core category titled as Elimination of interpersonal conflict and achieve job satisfaction approach to immigration referred to strategies implemented by these participants to increase Quality of working life. These strategies or action/interaction including Tolerance, looking for solution and confirmation. Increased tension and hope are the main consequences of these strategies that cause people move back and forth between stages or become fixed in a stage.
Conclusion: The findings of this study showed that nurses experience Interpersonal conflict and job dissatisfaction in the organization due to various reasons and try by moving to another organization in another country to resolve the conflict and achieve job satisfaction. Decision-makers in the health sector can Prevent nurse immigration and reduce manpower shortage by resolving perceived problems by nurses in clinical setting. | en_US |
