Introduction: Dementia is a neurodegenerative disorder that occurs as a result of one or more of several adiseases of brain and usually is chronic or progressive by nature. The number of people with Dementia is increasing year by year. They get into trouble in everyday life. Reviewing ancient medical manuscripts and opinions of different scientists in different periods of times may be useful in prevention and treatment of the disease. Regarding on the importance of aging in all societies and absence of any definite cure for it in modern medicine, trying for finding new ways of treatment is inevitable. The current study focuses on the history of Nesyan in Islamic golden ages to get familiar with the opinion of those days physicians. Methods and material: The current survey is a qualitative study which reviews the opinions of pioneers of golden ages of Islam. For selecting the manuscripts some factors such as skillfulness and the physician’s experience should be considered. Therefore, the Liber of Continens by Rhazes, Hedayat-al-Motaalemin of Akheveini, Cannon of Medicine by Avicenna and the Treasure of kharazmshah by Jorjani, were selected. Results: Although all the mentioned physicians had added new findings to the knowledge of previous scientists, we can definitely claim that Avicenna’s findings in Cannon of medicine is the most complete one which classifies and explains the disease.en_US
