Background and aim: The etiology of Oral Lichen Planus (OLP) is not known, autoreactive T lymphocytes may being involved in the pathogenesis of OLP. We aimed in this study to investigate the relationship between Interleukin-8 (IL-8) and Interleukin-1B (IL-1B) levels and disease activity in the patients suffering from OLP. Materials and methods: This descriptive analytical study included 56 patients with OLP and 50 healthy control individuals. Blood samples were obtained from both subjects. Serum IL-8 and IL-1B was determined by ELISA kit. Results: The Level of IL-8 (168.23 آ± 33.2) and IL-1B (174.18 آ± 23.2) were higher in OLP patients in comparison to healthy control group, respectively (P=0.004 and P < 0.001). Conclusions: The high levels of IL-1B and IL-8 in OLP patients indicate the role of immunity in the development of the disease. é 2016 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc. All rights reserved.
