Graphene and mesoporous silica nanomaterials have attracted much interest for applications in orthopaedic implants. This review focuses on more recent advances in orthopaedic implants based on Graphene and mesoporous silica nanomaterials during 2013 to May 2016. The purpose of this article was to give a general description of studies of nanostructured graphene/mesoporous silica for orthopaedic implants. In this review, we highlight how graphene/mesoporous silica family nanomaterials are being exploited for orthopaedic implants. Firstly, the main requirements for orthopaedic implants were discussed. Also, the effects of structural properties of graphene/mesoporous silica-based nanomaterials on the development of new orthopaedic implants were discussed. Finally, the present review intends to provide the reader an overview of the current state of the graphene/mesoporous silica-based biomaterials in orthopaedic implants, its limitations and hopes as well as the future research trends for this exciting field of science.
