Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the circadian rhythms and seasonal incidence of cardiac arrhythmias.In this cross - sectional study, 722 patients records with cardiac arrhythmias that were referred to ShahidMadani Teaching Hospital during 2 years (from August 2008 to August 2010) have been evaluated. The incidence of patients in different seasons and also examined the circadian rhythm.Type of arrhythmia was AF in 479 patients (62%) and PSVT in 293 patients (38%). was PSVT. Mean age of patients in AF group was 60.97 14.15 and in PSVT group was 50.42 16.18 years. Distribution of arrhythmias in 225 cases (29.1%) was in spring, 204 (26.4%) in summer, 159 (20.6%) in the fall and 184 (23.8%) cases was recorded in the winter. The first and second peak in the incidence of PSVT was in the rangeof 20:00 to 24:00 and 12:00 to 16:00 interval respectively. The highest increase in incidence of atrial fibrillation was in the range of 20:00 to 24:00 and the second peak was in the range of 12:00 to 16:00.
