dc.description.abstractBackground and Aim: Maxillofacial injuries can lead to dramatic long-term physical, functional, esthetic, psychological and even behavioral complications . Furthermore, they can result in the social and economic loads. Aim of this study is the evaluation of some of social and individual characteristics and etiology of patients with maxillofacial injury referred to Shohada and Imam Reza hospital of Tabriz in 2012. Methods and Materials: in a descriptive cross-sectional study, we studied patients with Maxillofacial injuries injury referring to Shohada and Imam Reza hospital , all data from patients such as age, gender type, level of education, occupation, ethnicity, mechanism of injury, accompanied injuries as well as level of consciousness were recorded and analyzed using proper analytic tests. Findings: Patients age ranged from 13 to 71 with a mean of 32.146.1, 74 of patients were male and 32 were femal, half of patients had lower then general diploma of education. The etiology of traumas included: car accident which included 42 patients, 24 of motorcycle riders, 20 patients pedestrians, 9 cases of quarrel, 4 cases of fall, 3 cases of sport injuries and the rest was due to unknown etiologies. Conclusion: Most of the patients were male in the age of 30 years, without high level education or income, with high risk hobbies like smoking or drugs and in close association with RTAs. 3 to 8 hours after trauma was the most time span to refer and cutaneous laceration were the most companied problem
