dc.description.abstractThis study aimed to investigate the frequency of minor salivary glands tumors in patients referred to pathology department of Imam Reza Hospital in the last decade (80-89). METHODS: A retrospective study of intraoral minor salivary glands tumors in the patients referred to pathology department of Imam Reza Hospital between 1380-1389 . Included in study were files of patients with minor salivary glands tumors in the mouth. Information obtained about each patient included age , sex, location and diagnosis. RESULTS: Of a total of 162 tumors of salivary glands origin , 23 cases were intraoral minor salivary glands tumors constituting 17/2 % of all salivary glands tumors . Twenty one (75%) cases were benign while seven (25%) were malignant . The most common diagnosed tumors were Pleomorphic Adenoma (67/9%) , followed by Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma (21/4%) . About 50% of the minor salivary glands tumors affected the palat (50%) followed by the upper lip and tonque (17/9%). The average age of patients with benign and malignant tumors was 49/36 and 63/85, respectively . Male were the most affected (67/9%) and the male : female ratio was 2/1:1. CONCLUSION : Present study showed that pattern of frequency of minor salivary glands tumors included age , sex , location and diagnosis, is different to series studies from all over the world ,even though it was similar to the others partly. Such a difference points out the role of geographic and racial factors.
