Propolis and honey are natural bee products with wide range of biological and medicinal properties.the pharmacological activity of them is highly variable depending on its geografic origin.at present antibiotic resistance is one of the world??s most pressing health problems. Over the last several years a world wide trend has been obsereved in the use of natural products. This study aimed at investigating in vitro the antimicrobial activity of ethanol extract of Iranian propolis and honey and their synergistic effect against 6 bacteria. Method and material: Antimicrobial activity of propolis extracts and honey was evaluated by using broth macro dilution method to measure MIC as recommended by the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute. streptococcus mutans and meticillin resistant staphylococcus aureos and Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis and Enterococcus faecalis and Escherichia Coli were cultured in 1.56 - 50% (v/v) honey diluted in broth, or 0.0121-25(mg/ml) Ethanolic extract of propolis diluted in broth.in order to determine synergistic effect, bacteria were cultured in sub MIC solution of them. The result were summarized as mean SD and analyzed with SPSS.the data were submitted to analysis of variance using ANOVA and two independent T-test.the significance chosen level was P value < 0.05. Result: The honey inhibited all bacteria but the propolis inhibited all bacteria except E.coli. When honey was mixed with propolis, honey showed lower MIC. In addition, propolis showed lower MIC toward entire microbes except staph.aureus when mixed with honey than when it was used alone. Conclusion: 1) Ethanolic extract of propolis and honey collected from shabestar ,prevents the growth of the gram positive microorganisms that used in this study , specially against MRSA. Propolis and honey have synergistic effect when used with mixed solution
