Determination of prevalence of Stafne Bone Cyst (SBC) in patients referred to the Radiology department of Tabriz medical university of medical science dental faculty in 2013

Abstract

Different researchers conducted studies on the prevalence of Stafne Bone Cyst (SBC) at various populations. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence , radiographic appearance , and characteristics of patients with Stafne Bone Cyst on populations. Materials and Methods Routine panoramic radiographs of 4702 patients admitted to Department of Oral Radiology of Tabriz Dental Faculty were examined for the frequency of Stafne Bone Cyst by age and sex . Results Stafne Bone Cyst was found in 6 cases representing a prevalence of 0.127% Stafne Bone Cyst (SBC) showed equivalence female/male ratio (3/3). In 3 of cases Stafne Bone Cyst was located in left side and in 2 cases located in right side. Stafne Bone Cyst found in men aged between 40-50 years old and in women aged between 30-40 years old. Conclusion The prevalence of Stafne Bone Cyst was few in our study with equivalence of female/male ratio
