Abstract
Due to the complex nature of insulin resistance and previous paradox results this study was investigated.
Method : This study was conducted as a clinical trial, and the samples included 40 patients with new onset hypothyroidism referred to the endocrine clinic of Imam Reza Hospital and Sheikh al-Reis clinic of Tabriz. Serum lipids level and insulin resistance levels (by HOMA IR and QUICKI) were investigated before and 3 months after receiving levothyroxine.
Results: The mean of HOMA IR index and QUICKI index in patients at baseline was 2.07 ± 1.56 and 0.356 ± 0.036 which at the end of the study was 2.09 ± 1.46 (P=0.451) and 0.355 ± 0.035 (P=0.934) respectively. The mean cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients at baseline was 199.79 ± 37.61 mg/dl and 160.41± 71.86 mg/dl , which at the end of the study was 178.1 ± 32.25 mg/dl (P<0.05) and 146 ± 61.11 mg/dl (P<0.05) respectively. The mean level of HDL and LDL in the patients at baseline was 44.21± 10.59 mg/dl and 123.54 ± 30.7 mg/dl which at the end of the study was 44.31 ± 10.56 mg/dl (P=0.954) and 107.08 ± 26.98 mg/dl (P<0.05) respectively.
