Evaluation of the Relation between Vitamin D Level and Biomarkers of Human Sinonasal Fibroblast Proliferation in Chronic Rhinosinusitis Patients with Nasal Polyps

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between vitamin D levels and the proliferation of sinonasal fibroblasts in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis and its therapeutic role. Material & Method: In this case-control study, 30 patients which underwent nasal polypectomy (case group) and 30 patients with non-inflammatory conditions which went under nasal endoscopic and non-endoscopic surgery (control group) were studied in 2017. Patients were chosen considering the inclusion and exclusion criteria with informed consent. The level of 25 Hydroxyvitamin vitamin D was evaluated from the blood sample and proliferation of fibroblasts sampled from nasal sinuses using ki67 and vimentin were analyzed using SPSS® 23.0.0 software. Results: The average level of vitamin D was 23.1±7.36 in case group and 31.19±7.02 in control group, which was significantly lower in case group (P <0.01). The proliferation of sinonsal fibroblasts, were positive in all cases patients and only 20% of control patients using vimentin. The proliferation of sinusonal fibroblasts, were negative in all control patients while only 10% of the case patients were negative using Ki67. The level of vitamin D decreased with increased rate of Ki67.
