Analysis of abundance of biomechanical abnormals in lower limb of young people with patellofemoral pain syndrome by photogrammetric method: A pilot study
Abstract
The aim of this study is to analysis of abundance of biomechanical abnormals in lower limb of young people with patellofemoral pain syndrome by photogrammetric method.
Materials and Methods: This was a pilot cross-sectional, descriptive pilot study and that was performed on 50 young patients with lower limb pain with patellofemoral pain syndrome referral to Physical and Rehabilitation Clinic of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences in 2019. The sampling method was census. After obtaining written informed consent from the study subjects, in order to determine the anteversion and neck shaft angle deviation in the hip and femur, the amount of genu varus and genu valgus and the Q _angle of the knee and the degree of inversion and eversion deviation in the ankle as well as measuring some of the biomechanical parameters such as the distance between the two femoral epicondia, the distance between the inner malleus and the anatomical axis of the lower limb were measured using a photogrammetric apparatus. The data were analyzed by SAPO software and biomechanical aberrations in hip, femur, knee, ankle and biomechanical parameters were evaluated. Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) was used to assess pain.
Results: In this study, the mean (standard deviation) of the right and left Q_angle were 21.16 (±10.1) and 19.32 (±10.2), respectively, and their frequency (percentage) of abnormalities were 33 (66.0%) and 34 (68.0%) cases, respectively. Also the mean (SD) of Possible Genu varus and Possible Genu valgus were 4.43 (±2.6) and 18.14 (±4.0) and frequency (percentage) abnormalities were 19 (38.0%) and 39 (78.0%) cases, respectively. The mean (SD) of Rear foot angle of right and left were 7.61 (±4.1) and 7.13 (±3.6) and frequency (percentage) abnormalities were 14 (28.0%) and 13 (26.0%) cases, respectively. The mean (SD) VAS was 6.51 (±3.4).
